Lesson 1: Introduction to Social Networks

Lesson 1: Introduction to Social Networks

Think (SCICU e-Portfolio)
1. Social software.
Which websites in the picture (top) are familiar to you?
I often use Wikipedia and I have used Gmail.

What do you think social software is?
I think social software is the software which is used by anyone on the web.

What do you think makes social software social?
I think the most important point is that anyone can use it. In addition
to that, "anywhere" and "for free" also seem to keywords.

2. Social Networks.
How would you define a network?
Network is the connection between people or things.

What is social about a social network?
Social network is social in a point that anyone can use in anywhere.

Explore (SCICU e-Portfolio)
Do you know of a recent situation in which knowledge has become available
first through social media?
I know that some scientific discoveries are announced on the internet.

Make notes on what you think the key words are?
I think the keyword is hidden relationship.

Please watch this video on social & technological change in the world
today (now). What were three things that surprised you? Why?
The most surprising fact is that more than 70% of U.S. 4-year-olds have
used a computer. In Japan, even the use of computer by elementary schoool
students is a problem. Thus the use of computer by 4-year-olds is
unbelievable.
Another thing that surprised me is that the prediction that today's
learners will have more than 10 jobs until their 40th. I have never think
about I would have such many jobs.
The other one is that all 2006 college graduates in India speak English
because I know that the literacy rate in India is not near to 100%.

Do (SCICU e-Portfolio)
Draw on your current understanding of social software, social networks,
and your understanding of the changes in 'Shift Happens' to write your own
rationale for choosing to learn how to use social software for learning.
Social software is the software anyone can use in anyware. Social
networks are the networks that connect people or things visibly. I'd like
to study social computing to widen my view about many kinds of networks.

Thank you Hiroki, this is a very positive first post. I like the way you have organised your answer. You write in full sentences and your grammar is quite clear. What jobs might make up some of the 10 you might have by 40? Grade B.
